New Commander Takes Over Somalia Mission |

Mogadishu,(insidesomalia.org)-A new leader of the UPDF peace-keeping force in Somalia has been named. Maj. Gen Okello replaces Maj. Gen. Levi Karuhanga, who has been African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Force Commander since March 2007 spokesman confirmed.
As the spokesman of AMISOM troops in Somalia major Bo-Hoku brigye told shabelle Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala, the Commander of the land forces of UPDF, left on Wednesday to preside over the hand-over ceremony and asses the performance of the UPDF contingent there.
Meanwhile 31 of the 51 newly promoted UPDF officers were on Thursday decorated with their ranks, reports Anthony Bugembe. The function took place at Bombo Army Headquarters Barracks and was presided over by UPDF’s Chief of Staff Land forces, Brigadier Geoffrey Muheesi.
Among those decorated was the UPDF/defense ministry spokesman, Major Paddy Ankunda and Capt. Kiconco Tabaro.
